For some, the change in seasons affects them enough to be diagnosed with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). SAD is a mood disorder that can cause people to have little energy, crave sweets and feel depressed. Although it is important for us to take care of ourselves year-round, it is even more important at times when we find ourselves busier and more stressed.
I recently received an email, focusing on energy management, that contained a survey based on a Harvard Business Review study. The study found that energy comes from four main sources in humans: the body, emotions, mind and spirit. Good energy management involves first understanding the current level of energy in each area and then designing practices to create new energy in each area. I invite you all to take the survey for yourselves. You may find some insight into your own lives and whether your current practices are creating or draining energy. The survey also includes tips for improving those energy areas which you may not score well on. Taking time for ourselves and working to create and maintain life balance takes some effort, but the rewards are well worth it!
