. Set aside a block of time where you can work with no interruptions. Forward your phone calls and turn off your email alert. Have your tools ready and arrange them in appropriate, easy to reach locations. This may include boxes for sorting, wastebasket or trash bags, recycle box, shred box and a labeler. Set up your ideal environment. You may want to turn on your favorite background or motivational music. If you will be sorting through boxes, drawers or files, choose a comfortable chair to sit in. Have a snack and your favorite drink on hand. Just jump in! Many times you may feel you don’t have the energy to sort, de-clutter and organize but all it really takes is 5-10 minutes of working at it and you suddenly feel energized. If you are still having trouble getting and staying motivated, recruit the help and support of a friend or look at hiring a professional. A good professional organizer will not only be there to help you through the steps of getting organized, but will help to get and keep you motivated throughout the process.
